Connect a Shopify store

Install the Inboxy app on your Shopify store, which permissions it asks for and why, and what to do if the connection does not complete.

Inboxy connects to Shopify by installing the Inboxy app on your store. You approve each permission on Shopify’s own screen, and the link back to your Inboxy account works once.

What you need

  • On Shopify: the store owner, or staff allowed to install apps.
  • An Inboxy account manager. Only the account admin can link a Shopify store.
  • Your store address: The address ending in myshopify.com, in Shopify → Settings → Store.

Connect it

  1. In Easy Setup, on the store step, pick “Shopify”. Later, open “E-Commerce” and press “Connect a store”.
  2. Enter your Shopify store address. Then press “Continue to Shopify”.
  3. Press “Install app” in Shopify. Shopify lists the permissions before installing.
  4. We link the store to your account. The link works once and expires after 30 minutes. Keep the Inboxy window open until it shows your store as connected.

Permissions Inboxy asks Shopify for

Shopify lists these before you install. Inboxy requests six, and each one has a feature behind it:

PermissionWhat Inboxy uses it for
write_ordersOrders and abandoned checkouts come in (it includes reading). Inboxy can also write a confirmation tag back to an order and create orders from your inbox.
read_productsYour catalog and stock, so the AI assistant answers from your store.
read_customersCustomer profiles, so a conversation shows that customer’s orders.
write_discountsCreate, pause, resume and edit discount codes from Inboxy (“Discount codes”).
write_draft_ordersAn order your team creates in the inbox that the customer pays online becomes a draft order with an invoice link.
read_fulfillmentsThe carrier’s shipment status and tracking number, so shipped, out-for-delivery and delivered messages can be sent.

Inboxy does not ask to change your products or your customers, and it does not ask for customers’ payment methods.

If you connected before a permission was added, you keep your old grant until you approve the update in the Shopify admin. The store page in “E-Commerce” then shows “Not granted — re-authorize” and the matching feature stays off, with a message, until you do.

After you connect

  • We are syncing products and orders now; the sync finishes in the background. You can finish setup.
  • On Shopify there is no single order status, so a confirmed order is marked with a tag or a fulfillment state; see Order confirmation.
  • Delivered and out-for-delivery messages arrive only when the store’s shipping carrier reports a shipment status; see Order update messages.
  • Set up abandoned-cart reminders.

If the connection does not complete

  • Enter an address ending in myshopify.com.
  • The app was installed on a different store from the address you entered. Check the address and try again.
  • This Shopify store is already linked to your account.
  • This store is linked to another Inboxy account. Sign in to that account, or ask its admin to disconnect the store first.
  • The link has expired. Start the connection again.

Disconnecting and uninstalling

Disconnecting here does not uninstall the app from Shopify. If you uninstall it in Shopify, the store data is erased from Inboxy after 48 hours, as Shopify requires. To disconnect inside Inboxy, see Connect your store. Still stuck? Contact support.
